Visit Us
The studio and the apiaries at Zelmeņi are open to visitors — by prior booking. One visit covers both sides: clay and honey.
How the visit goes
The studio. The visit begins in the ceramics workshop. Arnis shows how a lump of clay becomes a vessel on the wheel — from centring to finished form. Fifty years of hand, live.
The kiln and the glazes. Then the kiln room. You see where the pieces are fired to 1290 degrees and how the crystalline glazes grow during the slow cool. Finished work in every colour is on display — cobalt blue, turquoise, yellow, green, white.
The apiaries. After the studio — the apiaries, 250 colonies. Depending on the season, you see the bees at the hives and how honey travels from hive to jar — extraction, straining, filling.
The tasting — included. Every visit includes a tasting: honey, small bites, and home-made honey drinks for the adults. And not rarely, it all ends with a song on the guitar.
The end. At the end of the visit, both honey and available ceramic pieces can be bought on site.
